On April 29, 2025, the research conducted by the Council of Scientists, led by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vinh – Chairman of the Scientific Council at the Institute of Holistic Health Studies, Senior Pharmacist, and Biological Engineering Scientist at the University of Illinois (USA) – was officially published in the Vietnam Journal of Medicine (ISSN 1859-1868).

The article marks a significant milestone in promoting the proactive health care model in Vietnam, gradually replacing the reactive approach that has dominated for decades.

Laying the foundation for the shift in proactive health care

The study emphasizes that the future of modern medicine no longer lies in “treating diseases after they occur,” but in proactive prevention, monitoring, and early intervention. This is also the core spirit of:

  • Medicine 3.0 – The new generation of medicine focused on prevention, based on data science and technology.
  • 5Ps Medicine Framework – Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, Participatory & Precision.
  • These models can be applied across various health care areas such as cardiology, diabetes, metabolic disorders, offering opportunities to improve quality of life and reduce the burden of chronic diseases.

Proactive health care based on 5 foundational pillars

The study indicates that each individual can take control of their health through the 5 pillars of proactive health care:

  • Quality sleep
  • Physical activity – scientific exercise
  • Nutrition tailored to the body and goals
  • Stress and emotional management
  • Exogenous factors (living environment, light, noise, toxins, etc.)

By focusing on prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle according to these pillars, individuals can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases while also enhancing treatment effectiveness if underlying conditions exist.

Challenges in Applying Medicine 3.0

Although offering great potential, the study also highlights challenges that need to be addressed for Medicine 3.0 and 5Ps models to be implemented in practice:

  • Technology & Data: Establishing a seamless and secure system for collecting, connecting, and sharing health information.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Requires close coordination among healthcare professionals, technology experts, policymakers, and the community.
  • Shifting Health Care Mindset: From treatment to prevention, from reactive to proactive.
  • This is a long-term process that demands strategic vision and coordinated investment.

Medicine 3.0 – Not just a trend, but a revolution

In the context of a rapidly evolving healthcare sector, the proactive health care model offers hope for a healthier, longer, and more personalized future.

Medicine 3.0 is not just a trend of the future but a revolution in how we perceive and manage health.

By empowering individuals to proactively prevent diseases, this model paves the way to a society where health is within everyone’s control.
